Kyoto might just be the second most beautiful city that I've ever been to. In case you're wondering, I think San Francisco is #1.
So far, I've been to Kyoto twice and essentially spent both times temple-hopping. Kyoto's home to 17 UN World Heritage Sites, and to my amazement, it was one of the initially discussed targets for the first A-bomb. Luckily, it escaped that fate and any other attack during the war.
Lonely Planet guidebooks say this city ranks up there with NYC and Paris as must visit for any traveler. It's hard to argue with that.
